Conference from the 2018 Ladies’ Retreat by Bishop Joseph Santay, C.S.P.V
When we first read about St. Martha in Sacred Scripture, we see her anxiously trying to be the perfect hostess, while her sister Mary remains undisturbed at Our Lord’s feet. In response to Martha's complaints, Christ gently corrects her, asserting that a life of contemplation is more perfect than a life of inordinate activity. Bishop Santay points out that we also tend to worry, complain, and imagine that things aren’t fair, but like St. Martha, we can learn that no matter how pressing our duties may be, we can turn them into fruitful prayer by directing all our actions and works to the love and glory of God.
